I am an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Oberlin College.

My primary interests are in social and political philosophy, as well as 19th- and 20th-century European philosophy, with a particular focus on the intersection of these areas.

My research explores personal and political freedom, examining the conditions that inhibit it—both pressures from outside the agent, such as coercive political institutions and economic structures, and pressures from within, especially ideological forces that shape agents’ beliefs in ways that help entrench the status quo at the expense of the well-being of the vast majority. I also explore the conditions that enable freedom, arguing in particular for the promotion of cosmopolitan solidarity and examining what this would look like in practice.
